You’re Not Alone: A Brain Injury Group that Heals

A letter from the founder 🤍

When I started Balanced Living, I knew I wanted to create more than just a place for therapy. I wanted to create spaces where people feel understood. Because in my work especially with individuals who have experienced a brain injury, I’ve seen something that isn’t always talked about enough: The isolation. Depression. Not the physical challenges, but the emotional and social shifts that come with it. The moments where things feel different, harder to explain, or difficult for others to fully grasp. And that’s exactly why this group exists.

On April 12 at 1 PM at the Clifton Park Library, we are hosting our Brain Injury Support Group, something that I am incredibly proud of (not because it’s structured, but because of the people in it). We truly have an amazing group individuals who show up, share openly, listen deeply, and support one another in a way that can’t be replicated anywhere else. There is something powerful about hearing someone say, “I’ve been through that too.” It changes everything. As an occupational therapist, I know how important socialization is to recovery. Connection is not just meaningful, it’s therapeutic.

After a brain injury, rebuilding confidence in social settings, engaging in conversation, and feeling a sense of belonging again are all essential parts of healing. But more than that,it’s about being seen. not as a diagnosis, but as a person navigating something real. This group creates space for that. And it’s not just for individuals who have experienced a brain injury. Caregivers are always welcome.

Because support doesn’t stop with one person. Caregivers carry so much. Emotionally, mentally, and physically and they deserve a space to feel supported and connected as well. This group is free and will be held monthly, because support should not be limited to a single moment, it should be something you can return to, build from, and rely on over time. If you’ve been feeling alone in this process, I want you to know something clearly: You don’t have to do this by yourself.

Whether you come to share, to listen, or simply to sit in a room with people who understand, there is a place for you here. P.S. You also get to meet our team!

If you would like to join us, we would love to have you.
